| | | | | | | | In early 1998 a group of men gathered to pray and seek God's will on the campus of Hardin-Simmons University. Not knowing; at the time, they were laying the foundation for something that hadn't been done in ten years at Hardin-Simmons. During these meetings the men saw a need for an alternative to the current mens organizations, so late in the fall semester of 1998; Matt Hill, B.J. Johnson and Cory Rogers began constructing the constitution of Beta Delta Gamma.
While the constitution was being formed the name Beta Delta Gamma was chosen as the fraternities official name. Beta Delta Gamma was chosen to represent the acronym Brothers Devoted to God; as it was the founders desire to form a service/social club that was based on and around the principles taught in the Bible and wanted the name to be a constant reminder of those principles.
As the constitution was being completed the process of getting status as an official club on the Hardin-Simmons campus was beginning. When the process began it had been ten years since a club had successfully been granted official recognition as a Greek club at Hardin-Simmons. The largest challenge was getting two-thirds approval from the Greek Council; as many of the clubs at that time felt the addition of another fraternity would hurt their new member numbers. No matter the challenge God opened the doors as they needed to opened. The administration saw the need for an alternative to the current fraternities, and the Greek Council approved the club to join the council.
Though it was a tedious process; through each step, the founders became more reliant on God's ability to make things work.
Finally on January 14, 1999 the founders appeared before the student congress to present their constitution and the need for a club like Beta Delta Gamma on the Hardin-Simmons campus. As the three men were dismissed for the vote to approve the charter they lifted up a final prater and anxiously awaited the result of the vote. Almost thirty minutes passed before the men were called back in for the results.
The rest is the future.
